Brutalist Pine Dining Chairs
Brutalist Pine Dining Chairs
A striking ensemble of six sculptural dining chairs, crafted in solid pine with a raw, monastic presence. Likely 1970s in origin, these pieces channel the elemental language of Alpine modernism and self-build Brutalism—think Charlotte Perriand meets a mountain carpenter.
Chunky timber forms are joined with visible dovetail joints, the handwork proudly unvarnished. Each chair is unapologetically angular, with a tall slab backrest and weighty stance that feels part furniture, part architecture. The pine has aged beautifully, with warm honey tones and scattered knots, blemishes, and tool marks that serve as a record of honest labour.
They bring gravity to a dining space, but are surprisingly comfortable thanks to the wide, faceted seats and supportive upright design. Ideal for those drawn to the poetic severity of brutalist forms, folk utility, or the tactile materiality of natural wood.
