Brutalist Steel & Stone Candle Holders (Pair)
Brutalist Steel & Stone Candle Holders (Pair)
There’s a pleasing stubbornness to these. Not designed so much as assembled with intent — steel rods pulled into a simple cage, holding a stack of rough-cut stone as if it might otherwise wander off.
They sit somewhere between architecture and campfire engineering. The geometry is disciplined — four verticals, a circular base, a clean, functional top — but the stone refuses to behave. Each fragment is irregular, chalky, mineral-rich, caught mid-fall. The tension between the two does all the work.
Lit, they soften. The flame lifts the whole thing, casting light down through the cage and catching the edges of the stone in a way that feels almost geological — like heat returning to where it started. Unlit, they’re quieter, more sculptural. Objects to be looked at rather than used, though they do both without fuss.
There’s no attempt here to tidy things up. The steel has oxidised gently, the stone is left entirely as found. It’s honest, slightly severe, and all the better for it.
A good pair — and they want to stay that way.
