Cast Aluminium Figural Dish by Carol Boyes
Cast Aluminium Figural Dish by Carol Boyes
There’s a certain mischief to this one. Not loud, not cartoonish — just a quiet, knowing absurdity that reveals itself the longer you look.
Cast in aluminium, the dish is carried — quite literally — by a two stylised human figures, their limbs stretched into something between effort and elegance. They’re not straining, exactly. More as if this is simply what they do: hold things up, keep things moving, get on with it. There’s a gentle wit in that.
Carol Boyes had a knack for this sort of thing — taking the functional and slipping something human into it. Here, a simple serving dish becomes a small piece of theatre. Fruit, keys, whatever ends up in it feels almost incidental; the object itself is doing most of the talking.
The surface has that soft, slightly dulled sheen aluminium acquires over time. Not mirror-bright, but warmer, more forgiving. It sits comfortably on a table, catches the light just enough, and rewards a second glance.
Useful, certainly. But more to the point, it’s entertaining.
