Diminutive Brutalist Iron Pricket Candlestick
Diminutive Brutalist Iron Pricket Candlestick
A small, sharp little thing. All restraint and intent.
Three arched legs meet a central stem with the sort of weld that suggests it was made without ceremony — a quick, confident joining of parts rather than anything overly considered. And yet, look a moment longer, and there’s a surprising delicacy to it. The proportions are exact. The lift of the legs just right. The plate sits neatly beneath the spike, catching wax and light in equal measure.
It feels like something pulled together on a workshop bench at the end of the day, when the pressure’s off and the eye takes over. Brutalist in material, certainly — darkened iron, honest joins, nothing hidden — but not heavy-handed. There’s a lightness here that stops it tipping into the usual severity.
The pricket form itself is older than the object suggests — medieval in origin, designed to hold a candle by piercing its base rather than relying on a socket. It gives it a slightly ceremonial air, even at this scale. A functional object, pared back to its most essential gestures.
Small enough to move around, considered enough to hold its own wherever it lands.
