A wonderfully eccentric piece of folk wirework, built from loops, coils and careful twists of metal that seem to have grown outward from a single stem. Around the central column, delicate spirals unfurl in every direction like a small constellation of whirling forms, each one slightly different from the next. It has the easy charm of something made patiently by hand rather than designed on paper.

The construction itself is beautifully direct. Bent wire forms the structure, while tightly wound copper coils bind the joints and add warm flashes of colour against the cooler steel tones. Nothing is hidden; the method of making is part of the appeal. It feels inventive and quietly joyful, the sort of object that rewards a closer look.

Those spiralling discs have a lightness that inevitably calls to mind the playful wire experiments of Alexander Calder, whose early sculptures proved how expressive a simple line of metal could be. While this piece belongs firmly in the world of anonymous folk craft, it shares that same sense of movement — drawing shapes in the air rather than simply occupying space.

At the base, a geometric wire frame anchors the piece, again secured with those same copper bindings. The structure feels almost improbably delicate, yet perfectly balanced.

With a taper candle lit, the holder becomes a small theatre of shadows as the spirals catch the light and scatter soft circular patterns around it. Even unlit it reads as a curious little sculpture — one of those objects that sits happily between craft and art.

A charming and slightly mysterious piece of handmade wirework with real character.
