A beautifully peculiar Art Deco mirror, probably dating from the 1930s. A circular convex plate sits in a surround of vivid green mirrored glass, its gently bowed outline interrupted by two crisp horizontal joins. The sharply bevelled edges give the whole thing an almost architectural precision.
The green surround is mirrored too. It catches the room in colour while the convex centre gathers a much wider, slightly mischievous view of it. Neither reflection is especially concerned with helping you check whether your collar is straight. This is a mirror with other ambitions.
Coloured mirror glass was a favourite Art Deco material, particularly when cut into strong geometric shapes and finished with pronounced bevels. Here the effect is unusually spare: one circle, one striking colour and just enough detail to keep the eye moving. It retains its wooden backing and hanging chain.
Condition Vintage condition with areas of spotting and wear to the mirrored glass, particularly around the joins and edges. The wooden back also shows age and use. Please see the close-up photographs.
