A hand mirror with considerably more ambition than its size suggests. Creaciones Gobesso set vivid green pieces of Murano glass into a deeply scored, gilded resin frame, giving this small object the presence of something excavated rather than manufactured. The glass catches the light at different angles; the dark grooves keep all that brightness in check.
The square mirror and straight handle make it pleasingly practical, though Gobesso clearly had decoration on the mind. There is a small hanging loop on the back, so it can also live on the wall, where it becomes a miniature piece of sculpture with the occasional useful reflection.
The original “Vidrio Murano / Creaciones Gobesso” label remains on the reverse. Comparable Gobesso mirrors are generally dated to the 1960s and 1970s, so circa 1960s–70s is the appropriate dating for this example.
Condition Good vintage condition, with wear to the gilded finish and some age-related spotting to the mirror plate. The green glass pieces appear intact in the photographs. Original maker’s label and hanging loop to the reverse.
