Formula lounge chair by Ruud Ekstrand and Christer Norman for DUX 1968
Formula lounge chair by Ruud Ekstrand and Christer Norman for DUX 1968
A wonderfully louche slice of late-1960s Swedish design: the Formula lounge chair by Ruud Ekstrand & Christer Norman for DUX, here in a particularly rare configuration with its original faux-fur cover. Part hammock, part alpine daydream, it’s a chair that seems to exhale as you drop into it.
The design itself is deliciously simple: a taut sling of canvas stretched across a chromed steel frame, supporting a removable, oversized upholstered pad clad in long-pile faux fur. The whole thing hovers somewhere between space-age minimalism and chalet indulgence.
Functionally, it’s all about the recline: low, wide, and deeply loungy, with a gentle flex that makes it feel almost suspended. The faux-fur cover gives it a tactile, sculptural presence, softening the clean modernist line of the frame and adding a warmth rarely found in Scandinavian seating of this era.
A cult DUX design, seldom seen outside Scandinavian collections and exceptionally rare in this condition.
