A hand-forged wrought iron candlestick that takes the scenic route upwards. Its slender stem snakes through a succession of uneven curves, shifting from side to side before tapering to a pointed tip beside the candle dish. The movement feels instinctive: each bend flows into the next, with just enough irregularity to keep the eye travelling.
There is something of a drawn line about it—a dark, wavering stroke given weight and allowed to stand. The flattened faces of the iron catch narrow slivers of light, revealing the thickness and texture behind the silhouette. At the top, a shallow dish projects from the stem, with a central pricket to hold the candle; the stem itself continues past it like a small flick of the pen.
A broad, roughly semicircular iron plate anchors the composition below, supported by a transverse bar. Its compact geometry gives the wandering stem something firm to rise from, balancing the fluid upper form with a blunt, workmanlike base.
The surface carries a beautiful dark patina, mottled with warm brown oxidation and traces of old wax gathered around the candle dish. An unidentified impressed mark appears on the base. At 43 cm high, it has the presence of a small sculpture, with or without a candle—a practical object whose maker clearly enjoyed the journey as much as the destination.
