Some Murano glass pieces behave themselves politely. Others arrive like a burst of sunlight and make it clear they have no intention of blending into the background. This one is firmly in the latter camp.
The hand-blown shade is a rich, opaque yellow scattered with deep green inclusions, the colour drifting and pooling through the glass in that distinctive Murano way. Up close it reads almost like enamel splashes caught mid-melt. Switch the light on and the whole thing softens into a warm amber glow, the pattern dissolving slightly as the glass begins to radiate light rather than simply reflect it.
The shade sits within a looping metal cradle — a gently spiralling support that feels characteristically Italian: practical, but with a small flourish of theatre. The metalwork has developed a warm bronze-toned patina that pairs nicely with the glass, grounding all that colour with something a little calmer.
This piece comes from a series produced by Barovier & Toso in the late 1990s to early 2000s. While the overall design remains the same across the series, each shade is individually blown, meaning the distribution of colour and pattern shifts subtly from light to light.
