Murano glass has always had a slight theatrical streak, and this one doesn’t pretend otherwise.
The hand-blown shade is a lively mix of colour — cobalt blues, fiery reds, yellow and flecks of green scattered through the glass like pigment thrown across a canvas. It’s the sort of glass that rewards a closer look; from a distance it reads as a dense, painterly field, but up close the colours break apart into countless suspended fragments.
Once lit, the whole thing warms and softens, the colours diffusing through the glass so that the shade glows rather than simply shines. It becomes less a lamp and more a small atmospheric object on the wall.
The glass is held within a looping metal cradle that spirals gently around the shade before curling back toward the wall mount — a small flourish of movement that feels unmistakably Italian. The metalwork carries a warm bronze-toned patina that grounds the exuberant glass with something a little calmer and more architectural.
This example comes from a series produced by Barovier & Toso in the late 1990s to early 2000s. While the form remains consistent across the series, each shade is individually blown, meaning the colour composition shifts from light to light — no two are quite the same.
Three lights from this series are available and are listed individually. They work beautifully as single accents, though they are perhaps even better used in a small run along a hallway or stair, where the slight variations between shades create a rhythm rather than strict uniformity.
