A circular wool rug with a watery disposition. Pale aqua squiggles wander across a warm taupe ground, gathering around a central field of concentric peach-coloured rings. There is movement everywhere, though none of it appears particularly concerned with getting somewhere.

The looping pattern echoes the broken reflections and wavering lines of David Hockney’s swimming pools—a visual resemblance rather than an attribution. Here, the poolside blues are softened into a muted palette of aqua, stone and pale apricot, bringing a little aquatic mischief to the floor.

Likely dating from the late 1990s or early 2000s, the rug combines a playful postmodern design with a short wool pile. Its two-metre diameter gives it enough scale to anchor a seating arrangement, while the circular shape loosens up the usual procession of rectangular furniture.

There are areas of sun fading and scattered spot marks from its previous life. It remains a perfectly usable rug, with an appealing pattern and a softened palette, ready for a room that allows its objects a little history.

Condition

Used condition, with areas of sun fading and uneven fading, scattered spot marks and general wear to the pile. Not pristine, but remains suitable for everyday use. Please examine the overall and detail photographs, which show the variations in colour and condition.
