Alabaster, Metal | Late 20th Century
More sculpture than sconce, this impressive twin-arm wall light combines slender rust-coloured metalwork with beautifully carved alabaster shades. The forms feel almost classical in origin—somewhere between a ceremonial vessel and a fragment of ancient architecture—yet the overall composition remains strikingly modern.
Unlit, the alabaster possesses the soft, chalky presence of carved stone. Once illuminated, however, it becomes something altogether different. Veins and mineral inclusions hidden within the stone begin to emerge, glowing with warm shades of honey, peach and amber. The effect is less like a conventional wall light and more akin to candlelight passing through marble.
The design itself is elegantly restrained. Two attenuated stems rise from a simple wall mount, their slight asymmetry lending the piece a quietly organic quality. The turned alabaster shades introduce a note of classical architecture, while the slender metalwork keeps the overall composition light and contemporary.
A practical detail worth celebrating is the fitted flying lead, complete with foot switch and plug. The light can therefore be installed conventionally or simply mounted wherever desired and plugged directly into a socket, making placement considerably more flexible than most wall-mounted lighting.
As with all alabaster lighting, the real magic begins after dark. What appears solid and sculptural by day transforms into something softer and more atmospheric, the stone revealing its unique mineral character as it glows from within.

Very good vintage condition with minor age-related wear consistent with age and use. The alabaster shades are free from significant damage and display beautiful natural veining throughout. In full working order with flying lead, foot switch and plug.
