A quietly compelling piece of studio pottery, notable less for any firm attribution and more for the confidence of its surface.

Thrown in a classic baluster form, the vase carries a matte, softly mottled, almost iridescent glaze — a kind of oil-slick haze that shifts between earthy browns, smoky greens and muted metallic tones. Over this, a series of sgraffito markings have been cut and trailed, loose and gestural, sitting somewhere between decoration and instinct.

There’s a nice tension at play: a traditional silhouette paired with something more experimental in the finish. The neck is banded and slightly architectural, while the body feels freer, more painterly. It doesn’t shout, but it holds attention longer than expected.

Unidentified, but stamped to the base with a maker’s mark.
