A small lamp with an admirably strange silhouette. Its rounded glass shade is suspended above a low, folded copper base, held in place by a slender metal arm that curves around it like a rather attentive chaperone.
Unlit, the glass is a mottled wash of blue, green and ochre, crowded with tiny bubbles. Switch it on and the colour changes character entirely: the shade glows warm gold, while the bubbles become a dense constellation of darker little circles. At 25 cm high, it has enough presence for a side table or shelf without claiming the whole room.
There is something of mid-century Italian lighting in the pairing of expressive glass and worked metal, though its maker, origin and precise date remain unknown. An engaging piece of lighting with two quite different personalities, depending on whether the switch is on.
