A mirror with a bit of a spring in its step.
Dating from around the 1980s, the frame is cast in wonderfully clear resin and scattered with brass spirals, each one coiled and suspended within the material as though caught there mid-twirl. Some are large, some small, some tightly wound and others rather more relaxed about the whole business. Their irregularity is exactly what makes it work.
The transparency gives the frame an almost weightless quality against the wall, while the brass introduces little flashes of warmth as the light catches it. From the front the spirals appear to float around the mirror; viewed from the side, the substantial depth of the resin reveals them properly embedded within it. It's a simple idea, but a very good one.
The mirror plate itself is set back within the frame, creating a little shadow and giving the otherwise flat, graphic design some unexpected depth. The thick clear edges of the resin catch and distort the brass spirals too, occasionally multiplying them as you move around it.
It feels particularly at home in the 1980s — that decade's enthusiasm for transparent materials, shiny metal and decoration having a bit of fun again. There's something somewhere between a doodle, a spring and an ancient Greek motif in those repeated coils, but thankfully nobody seems to have thought too hard about it.

Condition
Good vintage condition with age-related wear throughout. The resin remains pleasingly clear, with occasional light scratches, marks and small imperfections consistent with age and use. Some minor age-related marking is visible around the mirror and frame. The inset brass spirals retain a warm finish. Please refer to the photographs for detail.
