Vintage Per Lütken for Holmegaard Sculptural Glass Centrepiece – Model 14595
Vintage Per Lütken for Holmegaard Sculptural Glass Centrepiece – Model 14595
Per Lütken understood better than most that glass could possess the same sense of movement as water. Across more than five decades at Holmegaard he produced objects that seemed to have been shaped by gravity rather than by the hand, and this elegant centrepiece is a fine example of that philosophy.
Attributed to Lütken and retaining the inscribed Holmegaard model number 14595, the bowl is formed from softly smoked crystal that rises in a continuous sweep before folding gracefully back upon itself. The resulting silhouette changes constantly as you move around it; from one angle it appears almost weightless, from another it becomes a bold sculptural loop.
There is very little excess here. No engraving, no applied decoration, no flourish beyond the confidence of the form itself. The thick polished rim catches the light like a single drawn line, while the subtle smoke tint lends the glass a quiet depth that never overwhelms whatever is placed within it.
Although conceived as a centrepiece, it is equally compelling left empty. Like the best Scandinavian design, it doesn't demand attention, but quietly rewards it.
Per Lütken remains one of Holmegaard's most celebrated designers, and his work continues to be admired for balancing technical virtuosity with remarkable restraint. Whether displayed as a fruit bowl or simply appreciated as an object of sculptural glass, this piece retains the timeless elegance that defines his work.
