A small stool made almost entirely of circles. Bentwood hoops form its open frame, meeting beneath a round cane seat and resting on a circular base. Turn it a little and the loops seem to rearrange themselves; it is unusually good company from every angle.
Its curves and cane seat belong to the bentwood tradition made famous by Thonet, whose furniture proved that a few carefully bent lengths of wood could do the work of considerably more. This stool takes that idea and runs around in circles with it. The deep burgundy lacquer gives the frame a rich, glossy finish against the pale cane.
At 43 cm high, it works as an occasional seat, a dressing-table stool or a sculptural piece beside a sofa. Its maker is unconfirmed, so Thonet-style describes the design rather than an attribution.
